Biography / CVHalliday Avray Wilson is an established British Sculptor based in France. Wilson received a Medal of Honour for his contribution to the Arts in France, in part for his monument Victoire, a 30ft high work to the French Resistance. Additional commissions in France include St. Julien, a larger than life imposing steel representation of the saint at Dontreix, and works in Bronze for the French National Collection of Equestrian Art based in Chateau Maison Lafitte. His English commissions include a large scale abstraction of a racehorse (based on Stubbs equestrian portrait) in steel for the Weatherby Racing Group UK. Wilson held his controversial first solo exhibition Schadenfreude in London's Cork Street, which was followed by Blastface in Berlin in 1999, featuring work made with plastic explosives and decommissioned weapons and ordance from Berlin. Sculpting for over 20 years, Wilsons work enjoys an international clientele of discerning collectors. Works of all scales have been shipped throughout Europe and the United States. The smaller scale bronzes can be seen in galleries and exhibitions around the world and at his own chateau gallery studion in the centre of France. Trained in fine art at Oxford and Florence and an associate of the Royal British Society of Sculptors: His work is inspired by artists such as Cesar, Anselm Keifer, Lynn Chadwick and Dame Elizabeth Frink. In addition, he is profoundly influenced by the work of his grandfather Frank Avray Wilson, who was linked to Tachisme and the CoBrA group in the 1950's. | |
